People ask me a lot about my influences - the drummers that I admire. So, I put together a list of some of the greats that have had an impact on my playing over the years. This will be an onging feature on the site and I'll continue to add to the list.
For now, let's start with part 1! Read on...
Clive Burr/Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden)
How both influenced my playing: I've always loved their tom work - always very musical long tom rolls and fills. Also, their juggernaught pounding rythmic style is something I really identify with. Both never looses the pocket even when syncopating parts. Truely underrated drummers in my opinion.
Suggested listening: Number of the Beast (Iron Maiden - Clive Burr)
Suggested listening: Powerslave, Peice Of Mind (Iron Maiden - Nicko McBrain)
Matt Cameron (Soundgarden)
How Matt Cameron influenced my playing: I love the way Matt Cameron pulls the most musical drum fills from seemingly out of nowhere! He'll be laying down some sweet-ass groove and all of a sudden... BAM... out of nowhere he reaches through the speakers and smacks you in the face with a drumstick! Cameron's playing always has a certain "swing" to it, an almost jazzy quality to the heavily syncopated patterns he plays.
Suggested listening: Badmotorfinger, Superunkown (Soundgarden)
